Shrub roses are generally tall plants, grow in the range of 4 to 12 feet, that produce many arching canes. Their flowers can be single, double, semi-double and grow as a single or in cluster at the end of the canes and on the side branches. Many of these rose bloom only once, while other are repeated bloomers. Shrub roses bloom heavily during the spring season and will continue to do so into the early summer season. These roses often produce colorful yellow, orange, or red hips.

When it comes to planting shrub roses, there are some guidelines to follow. Plant them spacing at least 2-3 feet apart. This will ensure when they mature, the plants will have enough room to grow. Dig a hole in the ground large enough for the roots to fit. Begin by adding soil half way in the hole and fill the hole with water. This will prevent any air in the soil. Finish off by filling the soil to the top of the hole and watering the plant heavily.

Caring for shrub roses are simple and is probably one of the easiest type of rose to care for. These plants need plenty of water, especially during the growing season. Watering them 2 times daily is the minimum, but if you live in a hot climate, they will require more watering. As with any type of roses, when watering, water at the base of the plant without getting any of the leaves wet. Wet leaves are prone to diseases and infection. Beside watering the roses, fertilizers are needed every 3 weeks or so. The task of pruning them are not needed because they are allowed to grow in any direction without having an overall effect.

Shrub roses can turn any ordinary garden into a beautiful garden. Beside growing them in gardens, they can be virtually grown anywhere, from the side of the house to the side of the streets. With many choices of color to choose from, there's one that will be for you.
